TOASTY!!

Mortal Kombat X has an announce trailer to destroy your face. Also, Sub Zero’s.

Ed Boon teased it for weeks, using the back of cars (A Lincoln MKX to be exact), and cryptic posters (now available at your local Gamestop–what? It’s tempting), and now, we have what looks like visual proof of Neatherrealm Studios’ next title.

Mortal Kombat X is not only real, it now has a trailer showing off what I would be hard presseed to define as actual gameplay–but rather a high concept trailer designed to show us what to expect from what has already been described to be a new “cinematic”, and “dynamic” fighting engine we can expect from the new title.

It’s a sight, to say the least. The best way I can describe this would be Boon and Co taking everything that worked so well in the Mortal Kombat reboot, (X-Rays, juggle combos, tight 2D fighting) integrating it with the parts of Deception that were snipped, but also work seamlessly here (Environmental damage, weapons, dynamic arenas, multiple fighting styles), and throwing a dash of Tao Feng in there with the limb damage, possibly (but probably not) as a nut shot to John Tobias. It is all very exciting indeed, and is also imbued with what looks like an uncompromising thread of hyperviolence–as evidenced by Sub Zero’s fate at the trailer’s conclusion.

Finish Him, indeed. Have a look above!

For anyone curious, the song playing during the trailer is called “Can’t Be Stopped” and it’s by none other than Snoop Dogg’s ‘nepfew’ Wiz Khalifa. While KMFDM stalwarts may feel initially betrayed by the lack of techno, it actually sounds pretty cool. Grows on ya.

Mortal Kombat X will be available for Xbox 360, Xbox One Ps3, PS4, and PC. We’ll have more on it as we get closer to E3, I mean..

UPDATE (6-3-14) : Its practically confirmed.
